We believe in open source. YRA Monitor is built on Testaro, which combines several open source automated testing packages into the largest combined rule set of any accessibility monitoring service we're aware of. We believe these projects will continue to improve, eventually reaching a point where rule sets from different vendors are less distinguishable — but for now, breadth of coverage matters.
Automated testing doesn't find everything. You'll still need checklists and training about user experience and assistive technology to find all issues efficiently. But automated testing is increasingly robust, and AI may soon help with some tasks currently done tediously by humans.
To be clear: we are not currently using AI for automated web testing. We may experiment with it in the coming year, but for now we're all-in on the Ensemble approach — combining the best open source testing libraries available.
